Privacy Policy
Short version: Beach Detector has no accounts, no ads and no tracking, and never sells anything about you. The only thing it sends to us is an optional, anonymous performance report, and only if you say yes.
Performance reports (opt-in)
The first time you open Options, the game asks whether you want to share performance numbers. If you say yes, after each beach session that lasted at least a minute, the game sends one report with:
| Sent | Not sent |
|---|---|
| Game version, operating system, graphics card name, quality preset, screen resolution, average and worst frame times, peak entity count, number of players, minutes played. | Your name, Steam ID, friends, chat, save files, or anything else that identifies you. |
Reports are posted to a private channel on Discord, which we use to read them. Like any website, Discord receives your IP address when the report is sent; we do not see or store it. We use the reports only to find slow hardware and fix performance.
You can switch this off any time: Options → Game → Share Performance. If you said no, nothing is ever sent.
Steam
The game runs on Steam. Your Steam name and ID are used to show you to friends, to connect multiplayer rooms (through Valve's relay network, so players don't see each other's IP addresses) and for Steam leaderboards and achievements. That data is handled by Valve under the Steam Privacy Policy.
Discord Rich Presence
If the Discord app is running, the game tells it what you are doing (for example "Digging · Day 3") so your friends can see it and join you. This goes to Discord on your own computer only and follows Discord's privacy policy. Close Discord or turn off activity status in Discord to stop it.
Chat and multiplayer
Chat, trades and everything else in a room go directly between the players in that room. We do not run servers and do not store chat.
Files on your computer
Settings, saves, logs and crash reports are stored on your computer (your profile and stats are also backed up to Steam Cloud). If the game crashes, it can open a pre-filled bug report page on GitHub; nothing is sent unless you choose to submit that report yourself.
Children
Beach Detector is made for players aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Your rights and contact
Because reports carry nothing that identifies you, we cannot link them back to a person. For any privacy question or request, contact us on our Discord server or open an issue on GitHub.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
