# Fandom.com Production Setup Guide for Beach Detector

This guide explains how to properly set up the official **Beach Detector Wiki** on Fandom.com according to Fandom's platform guidelines and bot policies.

## 1. Create the Wiki Community
1. Log into your main Fandom account at [fandom.com](https://www.fandom.com).
2. Go to [fandom.com/start](https://www.fandom.com/start) to start the Community Creation Wizard.
3. **Wiki Name**: `Beach Detector Wiki`
4. **URL / Subdomain**: `beach-detector.fandom.com` (or `beachdetector.fandom.com`)
5. **Category**: Video Games / Indie Games / Survival Co-op.
6. **Primary Language**: English.

> [!NOTE]
> As the creator of the wiki, you are automatically assigned **Bureaucrat** and **Administrator** roles. This allows you to manage local permissions, import templates, and approve bots.

## 2. Set Up the Dedicated Bot Account
Fandom's terms strictly require using a **separate, clearly identified account** for automated editing:

1. Register a new Fandom account specifically for automation:
   * Recommended username: `BeachDetector-Bot` or `<YourName>-Bot`.
2. Do not make manual personal edits with this account.
3. Edit the bot's user profile (`User:BeachDetector-Bot`):
   * Add a banner stating: `This is an automated bot operated by [[User:YourMainAccount]] for the Beach Detector Wiki.`
   * Add a note: `If this bot is causing issues, please contact the owner or an administrator to temporarily block it.`
4. Log into your **main admin account**, visit `User talk:BeachDetector-Bot`, and leave a short signed message confirming your approval of the bot.

## 3. Generate a Bot Password (`Special:BotPasswords`)
Standard login passwords should never be shared with automated scripts or AI models. Instead, use MediaWiki's scoped Bot Passwords:

1. Log into Fandom as the **bot account** (`BeachDetector-Bot`).
2. Navigate to:  
   `https://beach-detector.fandom.com/wiki/Special:BotPasswords`
3. Click **Create a new bot password**:
   * **Bot name**: `claude-sync` or `mcp-publisher`
4. Select the necessary permissions / grants:
   * [x] **High-volume editing** (allows faster automated edits)
   * [x] **Edit existing pages**
   * [x] **Create, edit, and move pages**
   * [x] **Upload new files** (for item and monster portraits)
   * [x] **Upload, replace, and move files**
5. Click **Create**.
6. **IMPORTANT**: Copy the generated username (e.g. `BeachDetector-Bot@mcp-publisher`) and password immediately. Fandom will only display the password once!

## 4. Request a Bot Flag
A **bot flag** ensures that automated edits do not flood the public `Recent Changes` page:

1. As the wiki administrator/bureaucrat, check if you can grant the bot flag directly via `Special:UserRights` on your wiki.
2. If your wiki permissions require Fandom Staff approval:
   * Go to `Special:Contact/general` or submit a ticket at [Fandom Support](https://support.fandom.com).
   * Include:
     - Wiki URL (`beach-detector.fandom.com`)
     - Bot account name (`BeachDetector-Bot`)
     - Link to your admin statement of approval on the bot's talk page.
   * Approval usually takes 24–48 hours.

## 5. Local Community AI Policy
* Under Fandom's decentralized AI Guidelines, each community sets its own policy.
* Because this is your original game and you are the founder, you have authority to approve AI-assisted documentation.
* Recommended policy text on `Project:AI_Policy`:
